Is rel=”nofollow” dead?

Search Engines have become intelligent over the past decade, and now they have started getting smarter. Over the past some day’s webmasters all over the world have become alert with the latest algorithm changes done by Google in its Page Rank algorithm.

Yeah, google has finally placed a challenge for webmaster with this change, it has changed the way Page Rank is distributed among the pages with altering the use of NoFollow tag. Firstly when the webmasters use nofollow the link juice was not passed to that particular page and was distributed equally among the other pages. But this is not the case anymore, now when you use the nofollow tag on a link you think is not important the juice will not be distributed among other links instead it will just evaporate. Due to this the link juice will be wasted and you will no longer get its benefit on other links. It’s a bit confusing for some people so below are some examples to help you understand better.

In the above example we can see that a page which has the sharing capacity of X units is passing the juice to 3 inner pages. No if you apply the nofollow attribute to any of the 3 inner pages then according to the old algorithm it used to be shared among the rest of the pages.

According to the given example we can see when we applied nofollow to a page its link juice was passed among the rest of the pages which was good as the link juice was not wasted but now the current scenario is not so pleasant.

Now here you can clearly see the dilemma the webmasters are facing. When the nofollow attribute is applied the link juice is still divided among 3 pages, the thing which is making everyone sad is that the link juice passed to the page with nofollow attribute is not passed to other pages instead it is evaporated. All the smart SEO’s around the globe have started finding solutions for this challenge. We have also come up with a couple of solutions with our research about it.

Solutions:-

• Use java script as its executes on click time and thus search engines will not be able to read the nofollow tag and thus will distribute the link juice to the rest of the pages.

• Use I-frame

These are solutions found up till now but don’t worry we’ll surely keep you updated. You can read more about other SEO topics here Web Design India.
